This experiential workshop is based on Margaret’s life work as a Mindfulness Teacher/Practitioner and Art Therapist and on her recent book:
Mindfulness Based Art:
The SPARKS Guide for Educators and Counsellors.
Mindfulness-based artmaking activates the expressive mind and offers the opportunity to practice self-expression in a safe environment. One can learn the mindful skills of; mental focus, being present, taking a new perspective, and generating fresh awareness and insight into everyday situations through specific art practices.
Mindful art making teaches the ability to reset one’s emotions and supports emotional regulation. Learning to consciously choose our expression helps to integrate these skills into our daily lives. The student or client artist learns how to choose what is right for oneself and how to discern what to accept and what to discard. Mindful communication is based on this.
This workshop includes an overview of:
• The 8 Principles of Mindful Art by lecture and discussion
• The 3 Stages of Mindfulness Based Art
An experiential introduction to:
• Mindfulness Practices
• Mindful Artmaking and Art Based Inquiry
Case presentations of:
• The Application of Mindful Art in Counselling

Before March 15: $325 / $250 student rate
